The Melbourne Visiting Poets Program welcomes two poets-in-residence per year to RMIT’s City Campus: a First Nations poet by invitation; and a regional poet selected from a national, open call-out.

Urban Writing House is non/fictionLab’s space for all things creative and scholarly.

An annual writing prize that aims to unearth new, audacious, authentic and/or inauthentic voices from both Australia and the world.

This collaboration with STREAT, a not-for-profit social enterprise providing pathways for young people who are disadvantaged or homeless, investigates storytelling as an agent of social change. STORIES MATTER investigates the notion of ‘applied creative writing’ and the connection between stories, belonging and place in a social enterprise setting.

Dromana’s Butterfly House, an architectural treasure of the 1950s, was donated to RMIT University by descendants of the original owners and enables non/fictionLab to offer McCraith House Creative Residencies throughout the year.

Present Tense is a series of public events celebrating the rich diversity of writing at RMIT University, supported by Creative Writing at RMIT and non/fictionLab.

Hot Dollar is a monthly seminar for members of the non/fictionLab research group. We target funding opportunities for research and creative production, share and critique draft applications and provide encouragement and support for one another’s projects.

Hot Scholar is a pilot program of professional development designed to build researchers’ skills and confidence in giving public presentations. It is delivered through a series of hour-long workshops, focusing on public-speaking skills and the dynamics and dramaturgy of live performance.

A group of creative academics, working across writing, photography, media, sound, design and performance, with a common interest in understanding the world in ways that critically examine the concept of the human and recognise the agency of material things. Together we discuss readings, conduct creative experiments, respond to each other’s work, and collaborate on developing new work and new methods for critical investigation. The group helps members develop projects and test ideas, theories and applications.
