On February 20 Lucinda Strahan led the workshop ‘Writing Literary Visual’ at ACCA as part of current exhibition Unfinished Business: Perspectives on Art and Feminism. This exploratory discussion and writing workshop was programmed as part of the exhibition’s Round Table series.
The workshop considered how modes of writing with, writing through and writing from art can open the way for the writer’s voice and responses to art that break with the totalizing masculinist conventions of art historical writing (did someone say mansplain?) Participants explored hybrid, embodied and located essaying in response to the exhibition, considering works as an emotional prompt, a thematic trampoline and a narrative trigger.
Thanks to everyone who came to this really engaging session to share their thoughts and their writing.
