Missa Pro Venerabilibus: A Mass for the Ageing is the final in a triptych of ‘essayesque’ works (Ware With A Translucent Body) hothoused and presented at Footscray Community Arts Centre over the course of my PhD candidature. It follows a theatrical extravaganza (Things That Fall Over: an anti-musical of a novel inside a reading of a play, with footnotes, and oratorio-as-coda, 2014) and an exhibition-cum-installation (embOLDen, 2015).
This third work, currently in creative development, completes – at least for now – a public conversation about ageing I have been conducting through my practice-based research. It invites participation from audience members as congregants and witnesses, and draws attention to the ‘thinking-as-making’ approach championed in the non/fictionLab by connecting arts-based practice to questions of community welfare and wellbeing.
Missa Pro Venerabilibus will go on as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2016, over three performances. These are to take place on Friday 16th September at 6.30pm and on Saturday 17th September at 12pm and at 6.30pm.
