On Monday non/fictionLab offered a full day of conversation and workshopping off campus at the very lovely Ceres Environment Park for our higher degree cohort. About a dozen or so students came, and after some introductory getting to know each other games, we built an agenda for the day. The key things that emerged that people wanted to know about revolved around building an academic profile, the ‘real’ way university’s work, what sorts of things make a difference to getting an academic job, and ways to get things published in journals.
Impressions were extremely positive. Everyone welcomed the opportunity to set the agenda for what mattered, and to get blunt commentary, advice, and recommendations from the current non/fictionLab co-directors, Adrian Miles and Francesca Rendle-Short.
