non/fictionLab’s co-director Adrian Miles managed a two day writing intensive for staff in RMIT’s media program last week. The intensive was held off campus, at the very comfortable Abbotsford Convent and used the same techniques, strategies, and focussing exercises that Adrian uses for the non/fictionLab writing workshops. Top writer achieved just over 7000 words in the two days. The average was 4,500 words. The aim is to get most of a new essay drafted for publication, with a second editing specific workshop in the near future, so that all the participants will have something submitted to a journal for review by the end of the year. The key trick here is not to invent more time to get something done but to carve out dedicated time and to demonstrate this this can be achieved on twenty five minutes a day.
