nonfictionLab’s Writers Immersion and Cultural Exchange Program held the first collaborative residency of 2015 in Vietnam in February, bringing together emerging and established writers from Australia and Asia. The immersion residency in Hoi An was followed by public events and workshops in Hanoi, which included a high profile partnership and showcase event with the National Library of Vietnam. These events in Vietnam will be followed by activity later in the year in Melbourne, regional Victoria and Brisbane in association with the Melbourne Writers Festival, Emerging Writers Festival, Footscray Community Arts Centre, Castlemaine Art Gallery and the Queensland Poetry Festival.
The Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) also included a panel discussing the WrICE model and its potential in Minneapolis in April. The panel was chaired by Professor Bonnie Sunstein of the University of Iowa; and featured WrICE co-directors Francesca Rendle-Short and David Carlin, as well as WrICE alumni Xu Xi and Alvin Pang. The lively and attentive audience was made up of graduate students, fellow presenters, and faculty members from interested MFA programs.
WrICE residencies and public events will also be held in China in 2016.
