In this lecture, Robin Hemley will discuss the various ways in which
writers engage with visual art, in particular, photography. From notional
ekphrasis (writing about imaginary works of art) to documentary and lyric
ekphrasis, Hemley will discuss the various ways in which authors have
engaged with visual representation.
Guggenheim Fellowship winner Robin Hemley is a prolific writer of fiction
and nonfiction, who is currently Writer-in-Residence and Director of the
Writing Program at Yale-NUS in Singapore, and was previously Director of
the Nonfiction Writing Program at University of Iowa. Robin has published
10 books of nonfiction and fiction.
